Before the ninth parliament is sworn in, the public has been reassured by Ghana’s Electoral Commission (EC) that the results for the Dome Kwabenya and Ablekuma North constituencies will be confirmed and their Members of Parliament-elect announced.

This guarantee comes after the Commission successfully recollected and announced the results in seven additional contested constituencies: Okaikwei Central, Nsawam Adoagyiri, Okaikwei East, Tema Central, Techiman South, Obuasi East, and Ahafo Ano North and South West.

Dr. Bossman Asare, the EC’s Deputy Chairperson in charge of Corporate Affairs, gave assurance that the unresolved issues would be settled quickly during a news conference in Accra on Tuesday.

He clarified that stakeholder disagreements were the reason for the delays in certain constituencies, necessitating more examination to maintain the electoral process’s integrity.

Dr. Asare urged all political parties and stakeholders to maintain composure as the Commission attempts to settle the unresolved issues, assuring the public of the EC’s dedication to openness and credibility.

Dr. Asare said, “We hope that the MPs-elect for the two outstanding constituencies will be announced very soon, well before the swearing-in of Parliament.”

Reactions to the EC’s recall and declaration procedure have been conflicting, with the New Patriotic Party (NPP) winning all seven of the seats that have been announced thus far.

The National Democratic Congress (NDC), meanwhile, has disapproved of the findings, denouncing the EC’s conduct as unlawful and pledging to contest the rulings in court.
