A woman has sparked a fierce debate over dog poop disposal after asking the internet if she should throw her pet’s waste in her neighbors’ trash cans.
In a TikTok video viewed more than 383,000 times, a woman who goes by B requested feedback on her dog-walking etiquette.
‘Okay, this is a serious question,’ she began. ‘If I’m walking my dog in my neighborhood and she poops in somebody’s yard, and I clean it up, and then I throw away her poop bag in their dumpster, is that acceptable?
‘Or would somebody be mad about me throwing away my dog’s poop in their garbage can?’
‘Or am I supposed to carry that poop bag with me the rest of the walk home…?’ she wrote across the video.
B’s seemingly genuine inquiry triggered an uproar from more than 14,300 pet and property owners in her comment section.
‘No dude you carry it home,’ one dog-owning user bluntly asserted.
Another person chimed in with their own experiences: ‘I’ll toss it in a Public trash, but never a private residence.’

‘Absolutely not. You carry it. If that bag breaks or leaks, are you cleaning my garbage can?’ one opponent asked.
‘NOOOOOO don’t do that … unless you want to come back and wash the trashcan,’ a man chimed in.
The general consensus of the comment section was dog walkers should not use private trash cans to get rid of the animal poop unless they have permission to do so.
B’s best course of action, according to many users, would be to throw out her bags in public garbage pails or just take them home.
‘I’ve had this happen and they didn’t tie the bag well enough or it broke open and it smeared on the side of my trashcan so I had to clean it. Carry it home please,’ someone testified.
‘I carry it till I get home I feel rude putting it in someone else’s trash,’ another woman wrote.
However, not everyone saw ditching the feces-filled bag as quickly as possible by throwing it in someone’s garage as a big deal.
‘It’s a garbage can, yes. Everyone saying no needs to touch grass,’ one person said.

‘I don’t see it as a big deal because it’s a garbage can but apparently some Karen’s do,’ another agreed.
One woman even offered up her own can for local dog walkers: ‘it’s weird that people are so ridiculous about this.
‘I clean a litter box, a baby’s diapers, & my dogs shit they all go in my can. Please don’t carry it just toss it in my can if it’s out & available.’
It is unclear what state B is in, but several users commented on the legality of disposing of waste in someone else’s private pail.
‘It’s actually a misdemeanor [in Michigan] to dispose of anything in someone’s garbage can without permission,’ someone wrote.
States including New York, New Jersey and California have made it illegal to dump any kind of garage – let allow dog poop – in a dumpster or can sitting on private property.
In fact, in most parts of the US, throwing away dog poop on private property is considered illegal dumping.
B responded to the influx of comments in a follow up video, saying she ‘never, ever realized it was such a big deal.’

She then shared a ‘public service announcement’ declaring: ‘Do not under any circumstances throw away your dog’s poop if your dog poops in somebody else’s yard!
‘Do not ever throw it away in somebody else’s garbage can!’
If dog poop is not properly disposed off, it can have serious health consequences for humans.
Researchers previously told DailyMail.com that bacteria in poop puts people at risk of diseases such as hepatitis, E. coli, cholera and endocarditis, a type of heart inflammation.
