Dodgers veteran Miguel Rojas announced his retirement just moments after they were swept out of the National League Championship Series by the Milwaukee Brewers.
The 37-year-old infielder broke the news to his teammates during an emotional clubhouse meeting following Thursday night’s Game 4 defeat.
The loss brought a sudden end to the Dodgers’ hopes of securing a historic World Series three-peat, bringing a close to Rojas’ 13-year big-league career.
‘This is it,’ Rojas told reporters after addressing his teammates. ‘I’m moving on with the next chapter in my life.’
The Venezuelan native remained dressed in his full uniform and cleats long after the final out was recorded, visibly moved by the moment.
‘It’s really hard to take them off right now,’ Rojas said of his jersey. ‘It was really emotional after the game. The last four years here changed my life.’

Rojas originally debuted in the majors with the Dodgers in 2014 before spending eight seasons as an everyday infield regular for the Miami Marlins.
He returned to Los Angeles via trade ahead of the 2023 campaign, quickly establishing himself as an indispensable defensive anchor and veteran clubhouse leader.
Across his second stint with the club, Rojas appeared in 446 games, batting.260 with 22 home runs, 117 RBIs, and steady defense across multiple positions.
His greatest moment in Dodger blue came during the 2025 Fall Classic, when he delivered a clutch, game-tying home run in the ninth inning of Game 7 against the Toronto Blue Jays.
‘I’m just proud of being part of this group,’ Rojas said. ‘That we were able to win back-to-back championships.’
Dodgers first baseman Freddie Freeman paid tribute to his longtime teammate, praising the enduring impact he left on the clubhouse culture.
‘He built a legacy,’ Freeman said. ‘We’ll be talking about Miguel Rojas for a long time.’
Rojas will not be stepping away from the organization entirely, having agreed to transition into a player development role starting next season.
‘I wanna stay here,’ Rojas explained. ‘I wanna wear this uniform or this logo in a different capacity.’
