After defeating Kamil Majchrzak in Indian Wells, Novak Djokovic, 41, reiterated that it would be great to compete in the upcoming Summer Games.

Although he admits that it becomes harder each year, he continues to insist that he will try to be there.

Speaking to reporters, Djokovic placed the long-term target squarely on the table. “That’s one of my long-term goals, to make it to the Olympic Games. It would be amazing,” he said.

The medal he hopes to defend is the one secured at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, where he defeated 22-year-old world No. 1 Carlos Alcaraz in the final.

Djokovic described that triumph as ‘the greatest sporting achievement’ of his career, a striking verdict from a player who has lifted virtually every major trophy the sport can offer.

The workload today, however, is far lighter than during his peak seasons. In earlier years he routinely played more than ninety matches in a single campaign.

In recent seasons that number has dropped significantly as injuries and recovery demands have forced a more selective approach.

Physical setbacks have also played a role.

Within that reality, the Olympic Games have become both motivation and direction. The event carries unique significance for Djokovic, who has repeatedly described representing Serbia as one of the most meaningful experiences of his career.

In the history of men’s tennis, only a handful of players have won more than one Olympic medal, while Britain’s Andy Murray remains the only man to have captured two Olympic singles golds.

Djokovic already owns bronze from Beijing 2008 and gold from Paris 2024. In a conversation last year with former Croatian football coach, Slaven Bilić, Djokovic outlined the same objective, expressing hope that he can compete in a sixth Olympic Games. His first appearance came in Beijing in 2008, where he won the singles bronze medal. –Insidethegames
