Ghanaian Amapiano sensation DJ Azonto has submitted a petition to former President John Dramani Mahama, calling for stronger measures to protect intellectual property in Ghana’s creative industry.

The petition follows the alleged unauthorized use of DJ Azonto’s popular catchphrase “Alla” in Medikal’s single Shoulder.

The Fa No Fom hitmaker stated that no permission was granted for the use of the term and is therefore seeking $100 million in compensation.

In a letter sighted by GhanaWeb, DJ Azonto—through his management team, Rolls Royce Family—expressed concern over the rising cases of intellectual property theft in the creative sector and called for immediate intervention.

“As citizens of this beloved country, we are writing to formally petition your high office regarding a growing issue within the Ghanaian creative industry: the uncredited and unauthorized use of intellectual property,” excerpts from the letter read.

The letter also proposed the introduction of a symbolic cultural levy, dubbed the “One Shoulder One Cedi Tax,” to support emerging talents in the creative space.

Below is the copy of the letter:
