Ghanaian Amapiano King DJ Azonto has taken a swipe at rapper Medikal for not seeking authorisation to use his popular “Alla” term in his recently released “Shoulder” single.

The “Shoulder” song, which featured award-winning musician Shatta Wale and Beatztrap KOTM, has made waves over the past few days and has top-charted various streaming platforms.

In a statement signed by Sammy Anim, PRO for the Rolls Royce Family, managers of DJ Azonto, they said they were outraged by the use of the term “Alla”, which formed part of their artiste’s identity.

“The term ‘Alla’, which forms part of DJ Azonto’s signature slogan, ‘Alla Woyo’, has been a well-established part of his identity, associated with his image, performances and fan culture.

“However, its sudden appearance in their song ‘Shoulder’ without credit, clearance or collaboration is being considered an infringement of property and brand identity,” the statement said.

It also demanded that DJ Azonto be compensated $100m, some diamond chains and other items so that issues would be solved amicably.

“If these demands are not met, we will not hesitate to take full legal action against all parties at the court.

“We have repeatedly advised all creatives that intellectual property is not for free use, especially in an industry where only our identity and originality are the cornerstones of success,” the statement ended.
