The General Legal Council has terminated Justice Nana Yaw Oppong’s appointment as the Director of the Ghana School of Law and Legal Education, according to a thelawplatform.online report.

The termination will see him end his tenure abruptly on Sunday, August 31, 2025.

According to the report, “The abrupt end to the 4-year term of the Director of the Law School, who is famed as an authority in land law and a long serving lecturer of law at the Faculty and Practical Course level, comes as a surprise.”

Justice Oppong is reported to have announced this to students on Tuesday, August 12, 2025, and also given thanks to God for guidance and protection over the last three years that he has been at the helm of affairs.

According to additional details from a citinewsroom.com report, Justice Oppong had hoped to have completed his full term of four years or oversee the current academic year as well as the forthcoming ceremony to call new members to the Bar.

But he is reported to have stated that, “Sadly, that was not to be.”

He is further reported to have extended his best wishes to the Part II students at the school and prayed that they will be called to the Bar in October, while and encouraging the Part I students to persevere and progress to the next stage of their studies.

“May God richly bless you all and grant us success in every endeavour. Thank you,” he concluded, the report said.

It will be recalled that Justice Yaw Oppong was inducted as the Director of Legal Education and also the Director of the Ghana School of Law (GSL) in December 2022.
