Shafik Mahama, the eldest son of President John Dramani Mahama, attended his father’s inauguration dinner on January 8, 2025, accompanied by his Algerian wife, Asma.
The dinner, held in Accra, celebrated President Mahama’s return to office as Ghana’s 6th President of the Fourth Republic. Asma, who married Shafik on July 17, 2021, in Dubai, was seen seated with the Mahama family, including Shafik’s siblings—Shahid, Sharaf, and Farida. A video captured by vlogger GH Hyper showcased Asma smiling and engaging with family members, reflecting the joyous atmosphere of the occasion.
The couple, who welcomed their first child in 2022, maintain a relatively private life but have been seen at significant family events. Their presence at the inauguration dinner highlights the close-knit nature of the Mahama family during this momentous period.
President Mahama’s inauguration followed his victory in the December 2024 elections, where he secured 56.55% of the total valid votes. The swearing-in ceremony, conducted by Chief Justice Gertrude Sackey Torkonoo and presided over by Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin, took place at the Black Star Square in Accra. Notably, Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang was also sworn in as Ghana’s first female Vice President.
