Acclaimed Ghanaian disc jockey, DJ Mensah, has shared his views on the trend of nearly every artiste staging shows in Ghana during December.

In an interview on GhanaWeb X Space on January 16, 2026, DJ Mensah noted that musicians should consider spreading their concerts throughout the year instead of crowding events into the December holiday period.

“I wish we could actually spread these shows throughout the year. I don’t know where that energy is coming from, where everybody is pushing the same concert in December, when we have a day in every month where we can spread it out. I’m sure most of the people are targeting the diasporans,” he said.

When asked why most musicians choose to host their concerts in Accra during the December season, DJ Mensah explained that while the capital often attracts most of the events, promoters in other regions actually offer higher payments than those in Accra.

He added that although publicity is typically concentrated in the capital, it is time for Ghanaians to shift their focus to other parts of the country.

“Between you and me, the guys out there are actually paying more than Accra will pay you to be there around December. And it’s not even a joke. It’s just that maybe the publicity is confined to their own spaces.

“So we don’t get to see the huge crowds as we see in Accra. I think we should open our eyes a bit more on that side. How everybody is moving to December, it’s just crazy,” he added.

Meanwhile, GhanaWeb’s X Space airs every Friday from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM, hosted by Joseph Henry Mensah and Isaac Dadzie.
