The founder and presidential candidate of the Ghana Freedom Party (GFP), Akua Donkor, has passed away, as initially reported by Zionfelix.net.

Following the announcement, more details have emerged from reliable sources, with a family source confirming the politician’s death. Akua Donkor passed on Monday night at the Greater Accra Regional Hospital, also known as Ridge Hospital, in Accra.

She first sought medical attention at the Nsawam Government Hospital in the Eastern Region for respiratory issues. Later, she was referred to Ridge Hospital in Accra, arriving around 7 p.m. By 10 p.m. on Monday, she had passed away.

Just two weeks prior, Madam Akua Donkor attended an Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting in Accra, where she made headlines by voicing her frustration over what she considered derogatory comments about her qualifications as a presidential candidate for the 2024 election. She expressed particular displeasure over repeated remarks regarding her lack of formal education.

Madam Akua Donkor founded the Ghana Freedom Party in 2011 and officially registered it in 2012, following multiple attempts to secure a position as an Assembly member in her hometown of Kwabre in the Ashanti Region. In 2004, she contested for a parliamentary seat in Kwabre East, running against the late Emmanuel Owusu Ansah, a former Judicial Secretary and Ashanti Regional Minister.

After unsuccessful bids in 2004 and 2008, she decided to pursue a higher political role, establishing the GFP and entering the presidential race in 2011. She filed to contest the 2024 presidential election and was actively participating in IPAC meetings leading up to her passing.

A few weeks ago, she announced Ghanaian media personality Kwabena Agyeman Appiah Kubi, popularly known as Roman Fada, as her running mate for the 2024 election in Ghana.
