Educationist and former Chairman of the National Development Planning Commission (NDPC), Professor Stephen Adei, has urged Ghanaians to remain optimistic about Ghana’s future, despite what he described as persistent disappointments in the country’s governance and leadership.

Speaking in an interview with GhanaWeb on the sidelines of the CEO’s Summit and Hangout held on January 9, 2026, at Big Joe’s Garden, Tema Community 7, Professor Adei said he remains hopeful that Ghana will eventually overcome its current challenges and realise its full potential.

“We are living in exciting times in Ghana. I have always been optimistic about Ghana’s nature, even though there has been so much disappointment. I have never given up hope on Ghana,” he stated.

Professor Adei expressed particular concern about the continued destruction caused by illegal mining, commonly known as galamsey, describing it as a national tragedy.

He criticised political leaders, traditional authorities, and security agencies for what he claimed was a collective failure that has allowed the menace to persist.

“Even with the terrible harm that our politicians, chiefs, and security agencies have allowed in making galamsey continue and almost be legalised, I still hope for Ghana,” he said.

He further urged citizens not to lose faith in the country.

The CEOs’ Breakfast and Networking Meeting brought together CEOs, entrepreneurs, C-suite executives, industry leaders, and emerging professionals for a morning of strategic dialogue, ethical leadership discussions, and high-level networking.

The event featured interactive sessions on business growth, leadership, and insider insights from seasoned executives.
