The Ghana Golf Association (GGA) on November 29, 2024, held a seminar to break stereotypes about golf and highlight its numerous benefits, especially for corporate women in Ghana.

The event, themed “The Corporate Woman and Golf: The Myth and Its Benefits of the Sport,” aimed at introducing more women to the sport and encouraging their active participation.

Mrs. Elsie Addo Awadzi, the 2nd Deputy Governor of the Bank of Ghana, served as the guest speaker. She shared personal reflections on her golf journey, recalling how her father’s passion for the sport inspired her, despite the challenges of balancing family and career.

“Golf teaches you discipline and patience. It’s not just a sport; it’s a way to reset and recharge,” she remarked.

Veteran golfer Dr. Esther Amedzro also shared her experiences, reflecting on her early days in golf when female participation was sparse.

She applauded the growing interest among women in golf, stating that, “In my time, it was rare to see women on the golf course. Today, it’s refreshing to see the tide turning. Golf is a game that builds networks, enhances focus, and brings immense joy.”

Adwoa Asare Asamoah, a businesswoman, narrated how she discovered golf in 2017 while working for Cal Bank.

“Initially, I thought playing golf was expensive, but I started with a second-hand club and played well. It’s not about how much you spend; it’s about the love for the game,” she shared, emphasizing how accessible the sport can be.

The GGA President encouraged attendees by demonstrating the use of different golf clubs, making the game more relatable. As part of its initiative, the GGA has adopted the Women in Golf Charter, which promotes reduced membership fees for women to ensure affordability and increase participation across the country.

The event was sponsored by the R&A and held in collaboration with the Ghana Golf Association, demonstrating a united effort to galvanize more women into the sport.
