The Member of Parliament for Atiwa East, Abena Osei Asare, has recounted her long-standing friendship with the late Minister of Defence, Dr Edward Omane Boamah, describing him as a very compassionate person and a dedicated family man.
In a recent interview with GhanaWeb TV, she reflected on their friendship and his selfless nature, which endeared many to him.
“We go way back, we’ve been friends, for a very long time and he was also a very dedicated family man. I’ve known his family for a very long time. I know he takes care of a thousand and one people. He’s that kind of person. He’s always there to help and support. I’m looking at all these; the many he supports, the way he conducts himself. You know, his demise is a big loss to this nation,” she remarked.

Abena Osei-Asare also appealed to Ghanaians to avoid politicising the tragic crash that claimed his life and that of seven others.
“I pray and hope that we, as Ghanaians, will take away politics, we’ll put away the politics of this whole thing and make sure we do things right, I pray and hope that this incident will never happen again in the history of Ghana,” she added.
A devastating helicopter crash in the Adansi Akrofuom District of the Ashanti Region claimed the lives of several high-ranking government officials and military personnel, including the Minister of Defence, Dr Edward Omane Boamah, and the Minister of Environment, Science, and Technology, Alhaji Dr Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed.

The officials were scheduled to attend the Responsible Cooperative Mining and Skills Development Program (rCOMSDEP) at Obuasi.
Reports indicate that the aircraft lost contact with radar shortly after takeoff.
A state funeral will be held on Friday, August 15, 2025, at the Black Star Square in Accra to honour the eight (8) fallen heroes.
