Ghanaian football administrator Micky Charles has urged authorities to ensure that Black Stars captain André Ayew, also known as Dede Ayew, is included in Ghana’s squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Speaking on the importance of experience in major tournaments, Charles stressed that Ayew’s leadership and international pedigree could prove vital for the Ghana national football team as they prepare for the global showpiece to be hosted in United States, Canada and Mexico.
“Dede Ayew must be at the World Cup by hook or crook because of the leadership he brings to the team,” Charles said. “He has the experience and the mentality to guide the younger players on the big stage.”
Ayew, the son of Ghana legend Abedi Pele, is one of Ghana’s most capped players and has represented the country at multiple major tournaments, including the FIFA World Cup and the Africa Cup of Nations.
Charles believes his presence could inspire the next generation as Ghana aims to make a strong impact at the expanded 48-team World Cup in 2026.
