Dede Ayew plays for NAC Breda in the Eredivisie

Ghanaian forward, André Dede Ayew has stated that his ambition is to ensure NAC Breda remains in the Eredivisie as they battle relegation.

Ayew made his long-awaited debut for NAC Breda on Saturday, January 10, 2026, as the Dutch side secured a vital away point in a hard-fought draw against Groningen.

The 36-year-old forward came off the bench in the 57th minute, replacing Moussa Soumano, and played 33 minutes as Breda fought to hold on for a valuable result. He was rated 6.8 for his performance.

Since the move was announced, several reports suggested he joined the club on a short-term deal with the expectation of impressing and earning a call-up to the Black Stars for the 2026 World Cup.

However, Ayew clarified that the support of the club and his willingness to help them escape relegation were the major factors behind his decision to join.

The former Swansea City attacker also noted that the club’s history of being home to many Ghanaian players motivated him to join them.

“With a big fan base also, this club has a big name. We have players like Matthew Amoah and others who have made their name here. There’s my little brother Kamal here and Denis is also here.

“I think this is the perfect place when I look at the fan base, when I look at the style of play and everything. I looked at everything and yeah, the club showed me a lot of determination and I showed it back. We are going for these six months to make sure the club stays in the top league,” Ayew told the media after his debut.
