The family of the late Nigerian boxer, Gabriel Oluwasegun Olanrewaju, are allegedly embroiled in a dispute over a $3,000 donation from the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA).
Maria Adebusola Olanrewaju, the widow of Nigerian boxer, Gabriel Oluwasegun Olanrewaju, claims that she has yet to receive the $3,000 donation offered by the GBA towards the burial rites of her late husband.
“The family members of my husband are fighting over the $3,000 donated by the entourage from Ghana. The money is yet to be given to me.
Immediately we received my husband’s body, his family did not allow me to perform my rites. They did not give me and the children access,” she told Accra-based Sporty FM.
The $3,000 was handed to the family when the delegation from the GBA returned the remains of the late boxer to his ancestral home in Nigeria.
The Nigerian boxer passed away in Ghana after collapsing at the Bukom Boxing Arena during an ill-fated fight with Ghana’s John Mbanugu.
An autopsy report later established that the Nigerian boxer died of cardiac arrest.
