President of the Professional Golfers Association of Ghana, Hans De Beer President of the Professional Golfers Association of Ghana, Hans De Beer

The President of the Professional Golfers Association of Ghana (PGA), Hans De Beer has commended Goldfields Ghana for coming back to support professional golf in the country.

Speaking to the media during the 2025 Goldfields Damang PGA Championship, he noted that Goldfields had long been a backbone of the PGA before stepping away briefly, and said he’s pleased they’ve returned and can once again be relied on for long-term sponsorship in the years ahead.

“We thank Goldfields and really appreciate their support, we look forward for another deal for the coming five years” he said.

He welcomed the participation of nationals from other parts of Africa coming to feel the greens of the Damang course.

72 top golfers set to compete in 2025 Goldfields Damang Open

This year’s tournament has attracted golfers not only from Ghana but others from Zimbabwe, South Africa, Togo, Cote d’ivoire, Nigeria and Senegal.

He praised the golfers’ stunning performance but noted that professional golf in Ghana can still be improved, adding that the sport has advanced across Africa and players benefit from competing abroad.

On the performance of the players, he noted that “the course is a difficult one to play on but three times winner, Kojo Barnni has proved to be the master of the course, while other golfers have improved the quality of play over the past five to ten years.”

He however missed Vincent Torgah who he described as “number one in Ghana, but was out engaged in another international tournament”.

De Beer noted that the PGA, founded in 1975, marks its 50th anniversary this year and will host a special golden jubilee tournament in December, during which past leaders will be remembered and honoured.

This year’s tournament which is the eleventh at Damang attracted 13 female professionals, including four Ghanaians. A total of 72 golfers competed from Tuesday, November 11 to Friday November 14.
