Liam Davies systematically broke down Francesco Grandelli to claim the Italian’s WBO InterContinental featherweight title, as well as the vacant European belt. A beautiful right-left combination dropped Grandelli in the fourth. The battered and cut champion decided not to continue after six rounds had been completed. Davies improves to 18-1, 9 KOs, while Grandelli falls to 21-5-2, 6 KOs.
In a short but wild fight, Josh Holmes came back from a near knockdown himself to drop Alex Murphy twice with less than 20 seconds remaining in the opening round. Murphy bravely struggled to his feet within the 10-count, but it was over at 3:09 of round one, with referee Howard Foster stopping the contest. Holmes is the new Commonwealth Silver lightweight champion and improves to 18-0, 7 KOs. Murphy falls to 14-3.
