    Mentors Chess Academy in collaboration with Imagination Africa last month hosted the maiden edition of the African Genius Chess Championship at the Legon City Mall in Accra, Ghana. The event brought together over one hundred young chess talents from more than 15 schools all over the country to showcase their strategic brilliance as well as compete for prestigious prizes. The tournament was divided into several age categories, namely Under-8, Under-10, Under-12, Under-14, Under-16, Under-18 and Under-20.

    The highly anticipated Under-20 category saw 12-year-old chess sensation Dave Chief Quansah Acheampong add to his tall list of tournament victories as he went unbeaten after 4 intense rounds of play against opponents from Presec, University of Ghana, DPS International, ARIS, to claim the championship trophy.

    The competition also witnessed outstanding performances from household names like Jedidiah Nana Osei Acheampong, Harry Sarkodee-Adoo and Jeshurun Obiri Yeboah Pryce-Tandoh win the Under-10, Under-12, and Under-14 categories respectively.

    Winners across each category, including the top three finishers and the best girl in each group, were honoured with medals and gifts from tournament sponsors, celebrating their skill and dedication.

    UNDER 8

    1st Prize = Ibegbunam Chinemelum

    2nd Prize = Shree Mahathi

    3rd Prize = Daryanani Naina

    Best Female = Shree Mahathi

    UNDER 10

    1st Prize = Jedidiah Nana Osei Acheampong

    2nd Prize = Mahi Raj

    3rd Prize = Donald Kekeli Kpobi

    Best Female = Darsharna Gaur

    UNDER 12

    1st Prize = Harry Sarkodee-Adoo

    2nd Prize = Shaun Villars

    3rd Prize = Ridham

    Best Female = Ridham

    UNDER 14

    1st Prize = Jeshurun Obiri Yeboah Pryce-Tandoh

    2nd Prize = Jatin Pille

    3rd Prize = Essam El Assaad

    Best Female = Horsham Zara

    UNDER 16

    1st – Kofi Asamoah Asamoah-Okyere

    2nd- Honu Sedinam Gbedasi

    3rd- David Darko Mensah

    UNDER 18

    1st- Maxwell Frimpong

    2nd- Anwar Morton

    3rd- Osei Owusu Ortis Junior

    Best Female:- Angel-Jordan Quansah

    UNDER 20
