Ghanaian comic actor Kalybos has sparked a social media debate after giving a surprising response to a question about why he ended his five-year relationship with his ex-girlfriend to marry another woman.

In excerpts from an upcoming episode of the Girls Aloud podcast, Kalybos was asked by one of the panelists why he didn’t marry his long-term girlfriend, Frimpongmaa, despite being together for five years.

The question from one of the panelists was straightforward: “Before you got married, you had a girlfriend for five years, Frimpongmaa, so why didn’t you marry her?”

Kalybos explained, “Being in a relationship for a longer period doesn’t mean you have to settle with the person no matter what. When you assess yourself and something is not going the way you want, then…”

The panelist, not entirely satisfied with his answer, pressed further: “So, things weren’t going the way you wanted with Frimpongmaa?”

To which Kalybos bluntly replied, “No, it wasn’t.”

The conversation then took an unexpected turn when the panelist asked whether Kalybos married his wife because of her wealth or because she is from the diaspora.

“Did you marry your wife because she’s from the diaspora, or because she has money?” she asked.

With a stern look, Kalybos responded, “Yeah, because she has money. She’s a rich woman.”

Kalybos recently celebrated his first wedding anniversary with his wife, sharing a heartwarming post on social media.

The couple tied the knot on November 10, 2023.
