SC Freiburg have officially confirmed the departure of Ghana international Daniel-Kofi Kyereh following a difficult injury-hit spell at the club.

The German-born midfielder joined Freiburg in 2022 after an impressive period with FC St. Pauli, where his performances established him as one of the exciting attacking midfielders in German football.

Kyereh made a bright start to life at Freiburg and managed 18 appearances, scoring two goals and providing one assist before his progress was halted by a devastating ACL injury in early 2023.

The serious injury kept the 29-year-old sidelined for nearly three years, forcing him into a lengthy rehabilitation period before finally returning to action recently.

After recovering from the injury setback, the Ghanaian midfielder featured for Freiburg’s U-23 side and showed encouraging signs during his comeback appearances.

Kyereh registered two goals and two assists in eight matches for the Freiburg U-23 team and also produced two goal involvements in his last two appearances as he worked his way back to full fitness.

The midfielder will officially become a free agent on July 1 and is now expected to search for a new club as he looks to revive his career after the long injury absence.

Kyereh has also openly expressed his desire to return to the Black Stars setup and hopes to force his way into Ghana’s plans for the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
