Ghanaian midfielder Daniel-Kofi Kyereh has ignited fresh hopes of a long-awaited return to football after posting a cryptic but inspiring update on social media, one that fans believe marks the final stretch of his gruelling a two-year injury nightmare.

The 29-year-old posted a photo of himself with a football at his feet alongside a motivational message board that read “Play The Game.”

Though no words were directly attributed to Kyereh, the symbolism was clear, the former St. Pauli and current Freiburg man is edging ever closer to his comeback.

According to his representatives, Kyereh is currently undergoing intense preparation for his return, training rigorously in Barcelona with full focus and determination.

It’s the latest encouraging sign in what has been a long and challenging road back to full fitness.

Kyereh has been sidelined since February 2023 after suffering a devastating anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury during training with SC Freiburg.

The injury ruled him out of the entire 2023/24 Bundesliga season, despite initial hopes of a late-season return.

He also missed several key national team assignments, including Ghana’s AFCON 2023 campaign and subsequent World Cup qualifiers.

Prior to the setback, Kyereh was beginning to establish himself in Freiburg’s midfield after joining the club in July 2022.

He made 12 appearances and scored twice in his debut season, quickly endearing himself to fans with his technical ability and composure on the ball.

At international level, the creative midfielder was part of Ghana’s squad at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, but has not featured for the Black Stars since then due to his long-term injury.
