Ghanaian forward Daniel Afriyie Barnieh is now a free agent after Swiss side FC Zurich confirmed on Thursday, July 3, 2025, that his contract has been terminated by mutual consent.

Barnieh, 24, joined FC Zurich from Accra Hearts of Oak in January 2023 on a three-year deal that was supposed to run until 2026.

However, after making 50 appearances and scoring two goals in the Swiss Super League, both parties have agreed to part ways.

The club announced his exit in a statement shared on social media:

“FC Zurich announce that Ghanaian striker Daniel Afriyie is leaving the city club. His contract was terminated by mutual agreement. FC Zürich thanks Daniel Afriyie for his dedication and wishes him all the best for the future!”

Barnieh rose to prominence with Accra Hearts of Oak and also captained Ghana’s Black Satellites to victory at the 2021 U-20 Africa Cup of Nations.

His move to Switzerland was seen as a big step in his career, but limited game time and competition for places saw him struggle for regular minutes.

With the new season approaching, Barnieh is now expected to weigh up his next move as he looks to revive his club career.
