MP for South Dayi, Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor

The Member of Parliament for South Dayi, Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor has apologised for earlier claiming that a controversial photo taken at the independence square depicting LGBTQ+ activities was AI generated.

In a post shared on X on July 13, 2025, Dafeamekpor stated that he was misinformed.

“Buhari, let me admit that upon watching this video you have supplied, I am convinced that the earlier information I received about this foto being AI-generated is inaccurate,” he stated.

“It means this truly happened in Ghana, so I will join the call for this to be condemned in no uncertain terms.” He added.

The MP who maintained a strong stance against LGBTQ+ activities explained that his initial comments about the image being AI-generated was based on wrong advice.

“Remember, I was & remain part of the strongest voices against these lgbtq+ activities in our country. The initial advice I got on the fotos, was wrong.

Apologies,” he stated.

Addressing the matter of viral photos of a gay couple kissing at Independence Square on the floor of Parliament on Friday, July 11, 2025, the MP said the images lacked authenticity and should not form the basis of any parliamentary action.

“The matters that the First Deputy Minority Whip alluded to regarding the fact that two persons were seen kissing at the Independence Square are totally falsehood.

“It was an Al-generated image posted by someone onto his social media handle, so my brother Habib has no documents to stand on predicate upon which he will be demanding that the Minister of Foreign Affairs be invited to speak to such matters and also to justify why we abstained from a certain vote at the UN”, he stated.

However, Dafeamekpor’s apology is as a result of a post shared on X addressed to the South Dayi MP by an X user named Gen Buhari.

The post was accompanied by a video that showed that the photos are not AI-generated.

The post read, “Hon. @etsedafeamekpor, your recent statements have raised concerns about your credibility. Specifically, your claim that the photos of a gay couple kissing at Independence Square were AI-generated and that the couple was never in Ghana has been disputed. We’ve now obtained a video that appears to show the same incident. We’d like you to clarify whether you believe this video is also AI-generated or not! You’re shameless!”
