Children of late NDC Vice Chair have expressed their grief after the sudden passing of their father Children of late NDC Vice Chair have expressed their grief after the sudden passing of their father

The children of the late National Democratic Congress (NDC) Vice Chair, Samuel Sarpong, have expressed their grief after the sudden passing of their father in the horrific helicopter crash that occurred on August 6.

At the state funeral held at the Black Star Square, and streamed by GhanaWebTV on August 15, 2025, they read an emotional tribute, revealing the remarkable personality he was behind the widespread knowledge of him as a public figure.

The children spoke of a father who was present, loving, and deeply involved in their lives.

“It is hard to put into words what you meant to us. You were more than a father; you were our hero, our role model, our anchor, our friend, and our greatest teacher.”

“Time was fast approaching for us to keep you away from work, allowing you to stay home and reflect on your youthful moments while we cared for you. Yet, Daddy, you are running away into eternity. Daddy, why?” the tribute partly read.

Samuel Sarpong tragically died in a military helicopter crash that claimed the lives of eight fallen heroes in Adansi in the Ashanti Region on August 6, 2025.

He was one of eight victims in the accident, which also claimed the lives of Minister of Defence, Dr Edward Omane Boamah, Dr Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, the Minister of Environment, Science, Technology, and Innovation; former parliamentary candidate for Obuasi East, Samuel Aboagye; and Alhaji Limuna Muniru Mohammed, the Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator.

The crew members who lost their lives in this incident included Squadron Leader Peter Baafemi Anala, Flying Officer Manaen Twum-Ampadu, and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah.

He left behind five children—four sons and one daughter.

    Read the tribute below

“It is hard to put into words what you meant to us. You were more than a father; you were our hero, role model, and greatest teacher. Your life was filled with purpose and an unwavering sense of duty to us and our community.

Your calm and respectful demeanor reflected your noble calling in public service. Your warmth and wisdom guided us at home, and your laughter filled our hearts.

The news of your passing has left a void that is hard to accept. Yet, your legacy lives on in us. We carry your dreams and lessons in our hearts. You set an enviable standard for the Sarpong family, and your footprints will guide us.

Daddy, why are you running away into eternity? You ran your race with pride. Rest well, Daddy. Damirefa Due.”
