Daddy Lumba's family has scheduled the one-week observation on August 30, 2025 Daddy Lumba’s family has scheduled the one-week observation on August 30, 2025

The one-week observation of late Ghanaian highlife legend, Charles Kwadwo Fosu, popularly known as Daddy Lumba, has been moved from the University of Ghana Sports Stadium in Legon to the Black Star Square (Independence Square) following a stern warning from the La State Council.

The new venue was confirmed in a statement by Daddy Lumba’s radio station, DLFM, via social media on Thursday, August 28, 2025.

Daddy Lumba’s one-week observation in jeopardy?

The post emphasised that while the date, Saturday, August 30, 2025, remains unchanged, the family had to relocate the event to the new venue.

“Important announcement – change of venue.

“One week observation for the late Charles Kwadwo Fosu (Daddy Lumba)

“Please be informed that while the date remains unchanged.

“Saturday, 30th August 2025, there has been a venue change.

“New venue: Black Star Square, “the post read.

Earlier, the La Homowo Planning Committee, through the La State Council’s Assistant Secretary, Jeffrey Tetteh, cautioned that holding the one-week celebration within the La Traditional Area would breach the ongoing ban on noisemaking.

According to the statement, the ban, which took effect on Monday, August 11, 2025, prohibits all forms of noisemaking, as well as funerals and funeral-related activities, across the La Traditional Area, stretching from the La township to Maalejor on the Dodowa road and Ayi Mensah at the foot of the Aburi Mountains.

“During this sacred period, Niimei would have entered the spiritual realm and as such, no activity that contravenes the cultural and spiritual order will be tolerated,” the statement said.

The Council expressed sympathy over the death of Daddy Lumba on July 26, 2025, at the age of 60, acknowledging his immense contributions to Ghanaian and global music.

However, it insisted that no funeral-related event could be permitted until the ban is lifted on Friday, September 5, 2025, at 6:00 p.m.

The Council further warned that defying the directive would result in both customary and lawful sanctions, stressing that there would be no compromise.

“The La State Council cautions all persons, families, groups, and organisers against any attempt to hold or facilitate such funeral-related events within the La Traditional Area during the ban. Any such planned activity must be postponed, rescheduled or cancelled outright,” the statement added.
