Manhyia Palace fines Lumba's family head two sheep over false claims Manhyia Palace fines Lumba’s family head two sheep over false claims

The head of the late Daddy Lumba’s family, Kofi Owusu, has reportedly been fined by traditional authorities at the Manhyia Palace after being found guilty of making false claims during a family dispute.

According to a report by Kumasi-based Hello FM on November 7, 2025, the Abusuapanin was fined two sheep as punishment.

A video shared by the media house showed the animals, believed to be the fine, being offloaded from a tricycle and taken into the palace grounds.

The sanction came after a hearing at the Manhyia Palace, which was triggered by the invocation of the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II’s Great Oath (Ntamkese), by Ernestina Fosu, the elder sister of the late Highlife legend.

The oath was invoked following a confrontation between Ernestina and Abusuapanin Kofi Owusu at the Kumasi High Court on October 31, 2025.

The clash reportedly happened after both parties appeared in court to complete legal processes ahead of a Case Management Conference related to a lawsuit filed by Daddy Lumba’s wife, Akosua Serwaa.

The case seeks to have her recognised as the musician’s only surviving spouse.

During the confrontation, Ernestina reportedly accused the family head of attempting to proceed with funeral arrangements without an autopsy being conducted on her late brother.

She then called on the Asantehene through the Great Oath to intervene and prevent the funeral from taking place.

Following the incident, both sides were summoned to appear before the Otumfuo’s Sumankwahene in Kumasi on November 3, 2025.

They were advised to resolve the matter amicably as a family and report back on November 7, 2025.

At the sitting, it was determined that Abusuapanin Owusu’s earlier actions and statements had led to the invocation of the oath, warranting the fine imposed by the Manhyia Palace.
