The Minister of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Abla Dzifa Gomashie, has issued a heartfelt tribute to music icon, Charles Kwadwo Fosu, widely known as Daddy Lumba, following his demise on July 26, 2025.
In a statement released on July 28, 2025, the minister, on behalf of President John Dramani Mahama, the ministry, and all Ghanaians, extended heartfelt condolences to Daddy Lumba’s family, his legion of fans, and Ghana’s creative community at large.
“I extend heartfelt condolences to his family, fans and the entire creative community.
“We again join HE John Dramani Mahama and the millions whose lives were touched by his music in mourning this immense loss,” she said in the statement.
She described Daddy Lumba’s death as a major loss not only to the music industry, but to the entire nation.
“Daddy Lumba was more than a musician; he was a cultural force. Through his timeless compositions, unforgettable melodies, and unique lyrical style, he elevated highlife music to unprecedented heights, shaping its evolution and drawing global attention to Ghana’s rich musical heritage.
“His influence inspired generations, and his work became the soundtrack to the lives of many Ghanaians, both at home and in the diaspora,” she wrote.
Gomashie also credited him as a proud ambassador of the nation, performing with dignity and excellence on both local and global stages.
According to her, his legacy will remain a cornerstone of Ghanaian culture and the creative arts.
“Whether performing on local stages or before international audiences, Daddy Lumba showcased the soul of our nation with pride, dignity and excellence.
“His legacy will forever remain a cornerstone of Ghanaian culture and the creative arts,” she added.
As part of the formal mourning process, the minister led a delegation to the late artiste’s residence to offer condolences to his family.
In concluding her statement, Dzifa Gomashie prayed; “May his soul rest in perfect peace, and may his music continue to echo through the generations.”
