Minister of Interior Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak has lifted the curfew in Binduri in the Upper East Region, citing improved peace and security.

According to a statement released on February 6, 2026, the directive follows recommendations from the Upper East Regional Security Council and the issuance of an Executive Instrument.

The Interior Ministry, through the press release, has urged traditional leaders, opinion leaders, youth, and residents of the area to continue exercising restraint and resolve disagreements via non-violent means.

Five people, including children, killed in late-night shooting during curfew in Binduri

“Government continues to urge Chiefs, Opinion Leaders, Youth, and People of the area to exercise restraint in the face of the challenges confronting them and to use non-violent means to channel their energies into ensuring peace in the area,” the statement signed by Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, MP and Minister of Interior, stated.

The curfew had been put in place as a security measure to curb unrest in the area.

Lifting the curfew signals a return to normalcy for residents, who are now encouraged to work together to sustain harmony in their communities.
