The recent arrest of ten Chinese nationals by the GoldBod Taskforce in Asankragua raises far more questions than answers—and chief among those who must respond is the GoldBod CEO, Sammy Gyamfi.

His sudden and dramatic spin on the incident reeks of a deeper political agenda laced with xenophobic undertones, targeted misinformation, and a subtle attempt to whip up public disaffection against Chinese nationals under the guise of discipline and National rescue.

Below are key critical points and questions Sammy Gyamfi must respond to if he wants Ghanaians to believe this is not just another staged propaganda episode meant to score political points through diplomatic smear campaigns against our long-standing development partners—China.

    Where Are the Ghanaian Counterparts?

Illegal gold trading is a transactional activity—it takes a buyer and a seller. So, if these Chinese nationals were allegedly caught engaging in unauthorized gold trading, who were the other counterparts in the operation?

    • Were they arrested too?

    • Or is this another case of selectively scapegoating foreigners while shielding local collaborators?

Ghana cannot fight illegal mining by only arresting the Chinese while leaving the Ghanaian enablers untouched.

This selective justice undermines our rule of law.

    What Are the Specific Charges?

Despite the noise and grandstanding, there has been no detailed account of the exact charges leveled against the suspects.

    • What laws did they allegedly violate?

    • Were they buying gold or attempting to export it?

    • Were they licensed gold traders or not?

In the absence of concrete legal documentation, this entire arrest begins to look more like political theatre than legitimate law enforcement.

Are Foreigners Banned from Internal Gold Trade Too?

    Sammy Gyamfi must clarify:

    • Is he suggesting that foreign nationals cannot legally engage in any form of internal gold buying in Ghana, even under local licensing partnerships or through legal frameworks?

Only Chinese had already been banned from exporting gold from Ghana and Mahama later extended this ban to all foreigners.

That policy dealt with exportation, not internal commercial transactions.

Since then, there has been no breach by Chinese nationals in terms of exporting gold illegally.

So why are they being arrested for supposedly engaging in internal trade unless proven otherwise?

There’s a growing pattern of Chinese nationals being paraded in public as criminals, every now and then often without any due process.

We have other foreigners who also buy gold directly from the local miners internally here in Ghana. How are we going to deal with such transactions?

Are they also illegal and why are those other foreign nationals involved activities not being arrested but only Chinese?

    • Is this a targeted xenophobic crusade under the guise of anti-galamsey enforcement?

    • Or is it a deliberate attempt by NDC operatives like Sammy Gyamfi to demonize Chinese business presence in Ghana?

It is no secret that Ghana-China diplomatic relations have been instrumental in infrastructural development. One must ask: Is this anti-Chinese campaign designed to sour those relations?

The Weapon Allegation: Propaganda Or Fact?

Sammy Gyamfi has claimed that the suspects were in possession of firearms.

    • But are these weapons legally registered or not?

    • Was any verification done before publicizing this in the media?

This careless association and tagging of foreign business people with weapons and criminality without factual clarity is not only irresponsible but diplomatically reckless.

As a matter of fact, without transparency, these operations risk becoming rogue actions with no legal basis, and Sammy Gyamfi must not whitewash them.

    Conclusion

Sammy Gyamfi must come clean on whether these arrests are grounded in law or whipped up for showmanship.

Ghana is a sovereign nation with laws—not a theatre for public lynching of diplomatic allies.

The targeting of Chinese nationals without solid evidence only weakens investor confidence and strains foreign relations.

Justice must be impartial—not one-sided, sensational, or driven by ethnic scapegoating.

Sammy Gyamfi must be held to account for fanning what now appears to be a dangerous smear campaign against the Chinese community in Ghana.

Finally, where is Ghana Police, Immigration, EOCO, the Military and all security agencies concerned especially where is the Anti-Galamsey Taskforce Commander Abu? Is the Lands and Natural Resources Minister Armah Kofi Buah, the EPA, the Minerals Commission all aware that Sammy Gyamfi is about to officially launch the GoldBod Taskforce as another para militia force??

    Enough is enough!!!
