Ghanaian musician Criss Waddle has called for the removal of Ghana Football Association (GFA) President Kurt Okraku following the Black Stars’ disappointing 4-2 defeat to The Gambia in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.

Ghana suffered the defeat at the Accra Sports Stadium on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, after surrendering a two-goal lead against The Gambia. The result left the Black Stars without a point from their opening two Group C matches, having earlier lost 2-0 to Côte d’Ivoire.

The Black Stars appeared to be cruising after Ernest Nuamah converted a penalty in the 27th minute before Felix Afena-Gyan doubled Ghana’s advantage six minutes later.

The Gambia, however, staged a remarkable comeback, with Muhammed Badamosi pulling one back from the penalty spot before Omar Colley restored parity before halftime. The visitors then went on to score twice in the second half to complete a 4-2 victory.

The result has triggered criticism of Ghana’s football administration, with Waddle arguing that the problems surrounding the Black Stars should not always be blamed on the technical team.

    Criss Waddle questions coaching changes

Reacting to the defeat in a post on X on September 30, the musician questioned why repeated changes in the national team’s coaching staff had not resulted in a sustained improvement in Ghana’s football fortunes.

According to Waddle, the GFA has changed coaches several times over the years, yet the overall trajectory of the national team has remained a concern.

He argued that the leadership of the football association should also be held accountable for the situation.

    Waddle wrote:

“The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has dismissed or sacked at least over 10 head coaches in the past years, yet our football trajectory still hasn’t changed. Why do we still blame coaches in 2026? We must be joking… GFA president himself has to be sacked.”

His comments come amid wider criticism following Ghana’s poor start to the AFCON qualifying campaign.
