Ghanaian comedian Lekzy De Comic has expressed frustration over what he describes as the consistent neglect of the entertainment industry by the government and other key stakeholders.

Speaking to GhanaWeb at the just-ended “Jacinta the 4Runner” concert on December 7, 2025, Lekzy De Comic explained that the disregard for the entertainment and arts sector began from childhood.

According to him, this mindset suggests that visual arts are for people who are not intellectually strong, an idea he finds deeply unfortunate.

‘Middle-men’ are killing trust of sponsors in creatives – Lekzy DeComic

“Entertainment has been ignored… Right from childhood, the arts have been looked down upon. In school, no matter how talented or clever you think you are and want to do visual art, your teacher will tell you to go and do science. And when you’re not considered too clever, they claim you’re not smart enough.

“They say, then go and do visual art, go and do G.Art. Meaning, in the minds of many people, G.Art is for those who are not intellectually strong, which is very unfortunate. Because “everything we are experiencing in life today was birthed out of art. The microphone, the auditorium, everything you see around, even this world we live in, is art. And it’s quite unfortunate that in our part of the world, very little premium is placed on art,” he said.

‘It’s sad we have analog leaders in digital positions’ – Lekzy DeComic

He further noted that despite the lack of support, comedians and other stakeholders in the industry remain united.

“For you to experience this level of entertainment, the lights, the sound, the auditorium, it all involves money and publicity. And that is what we lack in our industry. The unity, we have it. We are not fighting ourselves like some other industries.

“We are united. I’m not on the bill, but I’m still here to support a sister. If they had called me to perform, I’m sure I would have done it without question. But what we truly need is funding,” he added.
