Daddy Lumba's funeral has been hit with an injunction Daddy Lumba’s funeral has been hit with an injunction

The dramatic legal dispute surrounding the funeral of the late Highlife icon Daddy Lumba has taken a new turn after the Accra High Court recalled all lawyers involved and issued a fresh directive.

According to the court, the applicants must deposit GH¢2 million with the court by 2 p.m. today, December 12, 2025, or the funeral, previously halted, will proceed tomorrow, Saturday, December 13, 2025.

This comes just hours after the same court granted an injunction restraining the family head, Kofi Owusu, from organising the burial and prohibiting Transitions Funeral Home from releasing the body.

That earlier ruling was based on claims that the musician’s immediate family had been sidelined during preparations, despite Akan customs that typically give authority to the maternal lineage.

However, in the new emergency sitting, the court noted that while it respects the applicants’ concerns, the injunction carries significant financial implications and could unfairly burden the respondents.

The judge therefore ordered the applicants, which include members of Daddy Lumba’s maternal family, to pay GH¢2 million as security to cover potential costs arising from the delay.

Failure to make the payment by the 2 p.m. deadline will automatically lift the injunction, allowing the funeral to proceed as originally scheduled tomorrow.

Daddy Lumba, who passed away on July 26, 2025, at age 60, has been at the centre of a complex family dispute over who has the authority to lead and finance his funeral arrangements.
