Council of State Member for the Western Region and CEO of Win Energy, Dr. Maxwell Boakye, has announced plans to construct a 50-bed Children’s Ward at Samartex Hospital in Samreboi.

Dr. Boakye explained that the project fulfils a long-held wish of his late mother and is aimed at improving paediatric healthcare delivery across the Western Region.

Speaking at a sod-cutting ceremony, he said the new facility will provide dedicated space and specialised care for children, easing pressure on the hospital’s existing infrastructure and addressing critical gaps in child healthcare services.

“This project is very personal to me,” Dr. Boakye said. “It represents a promise fulfilled in honour of my late mother’s passion for compassion and service to humanity.”

The announcement comes one year after the passing of Maame Agnes Appiah, whom he described as a woman devoted to community welfare and the wellbeing of children.

Dr. Boakye noted that the Children’s Ward will serve as a lasting tribute to her legacy of care, compassion, and selfless service.

Community members and health officials at the ceremony welcomed the initiative, expressing optimism that the facility will enhance healthcare outcomes for children and families in Samreboi and neighbouring communities.

When completed, the 50-bed ward is expected to expand Samartex Hospital’s capacity and significantly improve paediatric services in the Western Region.
