    By SOPHIE GABLE, US REPORTER

    Published: 22:15 EDT, 4 September 2025 | Updated: 22:20 EDT, 4 September 2025

The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police shared footage of a recent car chase that was cut short due to the department’s new ‘grappler’ technology.

Video footage revealed the police’s black sedan creeping up to the carjacking suspect’s vehicle after surrounding him on US Route 95, a highway that runs through the southwest of the country.

When the cop car approached the vehicle, grappler technology was deployed and attached to the car.

The suspect continued to press the accelerator, but the grappler successfully diverted the vehicle to the side of the road.

‘He’s not going anywhere… Just put pressure on him,’ another officer was heard over the police radio.

The technology led to the successful arrest of a man accused of pushing his ex-girlfriend out of her vehicle before stealing it.

Vincent Farmer was subsequently arrested on August 18, and police officers later learned that a warrant for attempted murder was out for him in Nye County, which is located on the Nevada-California border.

‘As you’ll see in the video, the tool allowed our officers to bring this dangerous situation to a successful and peaceful resolution,’ LVMPD said.

‘Keeping our community safe is always our priority’.

Daily Mail reached out to the LVMPD for additional information on Farmer’s arrest and the charges against him.

A grappler device is a new technology available to authorities that’s installed on the front of their vehicle.

The device carries a folded strap and can be deployed when the law enforcement vehicle is directly behind a suspect’s car.

The strap then wedges under the vehicle’s rear wheel, which prevents the car from turning and eventually brings it to a stop, as shown in LVMPD’s video.

The device eliminates the dangers of high-speed chases. Grappler technology has recently been implemented in numerous police departments across the country.

Just last week, Michigan State Police shared that officers with the Livonia Police Department used a grappler device to stop a stolen Chevrolet Cruze.

The suspect continued driving, which resulted in the rear axle of the vehicle getting ripped off.

The driver and two passengers were arrested. The driver was charged with possession of a stolen car and a probation violation warrant.

‘We continue to use technology to find and stop criminals in our communities,’ Lieutenant Mike Shaw said.

‘Thanks to the Livonia Police Department and their grappler device, these suspects are now in jail without the need for a pursuit’.
