Hon. Hawa Koomson’s recent gesture of distributing cooking oil to women in Kasoa has sparked a heated debate. While some see it as a kind gesture to support households during tough times, others accuse her of vote-buying tactics .

As the Minister for Fisheries and Aquaculture Development and Member of Parliament for Awutu Senya East, Koomson’s actions are under scrutiny. Her supporters argue that this demonstrates her commitment to her constituency, but opposition voices raise concerns about the ethical implications of such giveaways on the electoral landscape .

This isn’t the first time Koomson’s strategies have been questioned. In 2020, she was involved in a controversy surrounding a gunshot incident at a voter registration center .

As Ghana prepares for its upcoming elections, the debate surrounding campaign practices and their influence on voter behavior is becoming increasingly important.
