The Nkwanta South Education Directorate in the Oti Region has held its Circuit Level Reading Festival as part of ongoing efforts to promote a strong reading culture among pupils.

Madam Leticia Afudigo, Schools Improvement Support Officer (SISO) for the Nkwanta East Circuit, explained that the festival featured activities such as reading contests and spelling bees, all designed to help learners strengthen their reading and writing skills.

She, however, noted that the recent conflict in the municipality had severely impacted children’s education, disrupting academic activities and hindering progress.

“Despite these challenges, support from the Ghana Education Service and the dedication of teachers is gradually bringing children back to school, where educators are working hard to provide quality learning,” she added.

Madam Irene Komla, Early Childhood Coordinator for Nkwanta South, also highlighted the critical role education played in children’s development.

She called on traditional authorities and community elders to acknowledge the difficulties children were facing due to the unrest.

Madam Komla urged chiefs and residents of the area to put aside their differences and prioritise education to secure a better future for the children.

Heads of various schools appealed for stronger parental involvement, stressing that teachers alone could not build children’s knowledge.

They emphasised that lessons taught in school must be reinforced at home and encouraged parents to remain committed to supporting their children’s learning journey.
