Composers of some Ghanaian hit songs you probably do not know are dead From the early to mid-2000s, several Ghanaian musicians from the fields of highlife, hiplife and gospel, dominated the airwaves with numerous hit songs.

With their catchy tunes and unforgettable lyrics, these artistes made a huge impact in the entertainment industry and captured the hearts of music lovers across the country.

Sadly, many of them passed away and as time passed, it seems their names have faded from the public’s memory, even though their songs are still widely played.

Some music lovers are even unaware that these talented musicians have passed on.

With that being said, let’s take a look at a list of these late artistes below:

    Nana Wusu

Highlife musician Nana Wusu released numerous songs such as “Ma Te Me Ho,” “Ayefro,” and “Dangerous” in 2010.

One of his tracks, “Mame Kiss,” became a major hit, overshadowing his name to the point where fans began referring to the song as “Philipa.”

Nana Wusu passed away in 2013 at his residence in the Ashanti Region after battling an illness.

    Nana Lyttle

Hiplife musician, Nana Lyttle, was famous for hit songs such as “Naa Kwaley” in the 2000s.

The song, which featured Lazy Dezy, became a hit in 2013.

He passed away on December 28, 2022, after battling an illness.

His death was announced by his brother, DJ Precious Jewel, who confirmed he passed away at the Achimota Hospital.

Although he has passed, his “Naa Kwaley” record still resonates on the airwaves, with people who are unaware of his death still wondering about his whereabouts.

    Brother Philip

Ghanaian gospel musician Philip Nyarko, popularly known as Brother Philip, had major gospel hits in 2007 with songs like “Momma Yenko Gya Me,” “Yesu Ye Dawasi,” and “Wo Tumi So,” winning the hearts of music lovers.

Sadly, Brother Philip passed away on February 7, 2007, at age 32 after short illness.

With time, after his death, his name disappeared from the music scene, but his hit songs still live on.

People who are unaware of his passing and have noticed his absence from the music scene often ask questions about his whereabouts.

    Bak Tye:

Ekow Zagla, known by his stage name Bak Tye or Baka Tee, was a Ghanaian hiplife musician and rapper.

Born in 1980, he was known for his hit song “Yenpie” in 2004, which featured Samini.

Bak Tye also worked with Mzbel on her track “Awaso Me.”

He passed away on July 28, 2019, at the age of 39, and not many fans are likely aware that he is no longer alive.

Some fans probably think he simply disappeared from the music scene.

    Rev. Prince Nyarko

Gospel musician Rev. Prince Nyarko passed away in 2022.

His daughter revealed that, prior to his demise, he had recovered from an illness and was preparing to give testimony at church the following Sunday.

Sadly, he was found dead in his room when his wife went to serve him breakfast.

Rev. Nyarko was known for hit songs such as “Henna Ne Wadamfo Pa,” “Nyame Ye Osahene,” and “Okamafo Jesus.”

There wasn’t much buzz surrounding the announcement of his death, and some music lovers probably believe he is still alive but has just gone into hibernation.

    Tommy Wiredu

Highlife musician Tommy Wiredu was known for hit songs like “Medo Yeduru,” “Susu Biribi,” and “Mehu Ye Anka.”

After his demise in 2003, his songs have continued to buzz on the airwaves, and some music lovers probably are unaware of his death.

    Vybrant Faya

Emmanuel Kojo Quayeson, better known as Vybrant Faya, was a Dancehall musician born on April 1, 1987.

His hit song “Mampi,” released in 2014, became more popular than he was.

Sadly, he did not live to enjoy his short-lived fame, as he passed away in a tragic motor accident on the Accra-Tema motorway in October 2016.

Although his song continues to be enjoyed by many fans, some of them, unaware of his death, are still skeptical about his whereabouts and often wonder why he has disappeared from the music scene.

    Prophet Seth Frimpong

Gospel musician Prophet Seth Frimpong contributed to the Ghanaian music industry with hit songs like “Okumchola” and “Nyame Animonyam.”

Known as the “Dancing Prophet,” he tragically passed away in 2020 at the age of 50.

Some of his popular songs include, “Mehuriso,” “Adansidie,” and “Nyame Animonyam.”

People who are unaware of his passing still believe that, like several gospel music veterans who have gone into hibernation, Prophet Seth Frimpong has simply stepped away from the spotlight.
