The Commonwealth Hansard Editors Association – Africa Region (CHEA-AR) has urged African parliaments, legislatures, and assemblies to invest in technological infrastructure and capacity building to enhance Hansard reporting, following its 11th Biennial Conference held in Accra, Ghana, from August 11 to 15, 2025.

In a communique issued on August 15, 2025, the association outlined eight resolutions aimed at improving parliamentary reporting across Africa.

The communique called for increased investment in technological systems, software, and tools to advance Hansard production.

It also emphasised the need for continuous training of Hansard officers in modern technologies to boost efficiency.

The association advocated for standardised production and training processes for Hansard officers across African parliaments, as well as improved collaboration to ensure consistency.

It further urged parliaments to support hosting and participation in future CHEA-AR conferences and to adopt appropriate technologies, including artificial intelligence, to enhance Hansard production.

Additionally, the communique stressed the importance of reducing turnaround times for the preparation, production, and publication of Hansards and making them readily accessible to the public.
