Residents of Amanase in the Ayensuano District of the Eastern Region are raising alarm over the collapse of a crucial bridge that connects the town to Aboabo and several surrounding communities, describing it as a major threat to livelihoods and public safety.

Amanasehene, Osabarima Etuobefom Asare Panin, told Accra FM/CTV News that the bridge, which has been in a deplorable state for years, has now become a “dangerous deathtrap” and is severely disrupting socio-economic activities.

“The poor condition of the bridge is affecting every aspect of life — trading, healthcare, education, and farming,” he lamented.

The collapse has forced many drivers to abandon the route, while those who still operate charge significantly higher fares due to long detours, further straining the finances of local residents.

The chief has therefore appealed to government authorities and relevant stakeholders to respond swiftly by reconstructing the bridge and restoring safe access for the community.

In a related appeal, Osabarima Etuobefom Asare Panin also highlighted the urgent need for a new school building in Amanase. He said the current structure is dilapidated and poses serious risks to both pupils and teachers.

He revealed that severe overcrowding has worsened the situation, with primary school classrooms holding as many as 95 pupils and Junior High School classes accommodating up to 90 students each.

“This congestion is not conducive to effective teaching and learning,” the chief stressed, urging government intervention to provide a modern, safe educational facility for the children of Amanase.
