Former Head of Public Relations Unit at COCOBOD, Fiifi Boafo, has stated that the institution’s attempt to douse growing concerns about its ongoing management shake-up has only fueled further criticism.

According to him, the recent statement issued by his former office “does little to address the real issues at stake.”

In a sharp rebuttal to a statement released by COCOBOD on August 20, 2025, Boafo argued that the current administration’s decision only burdens the board with needless costs by sidelining experienced public servants who have served the institution for many years.

COCOBOD responds to Fiifi Boafo’s claim as ‘false and misleading’

He noted that several directors with decades of technical and managerial expertise have been stripped of their substantive roles and reassigned to positions that do not even exist in COCOBOD’s official organogram.

Industry insiders warn this has weakened key departments while fueling perceptions of politically motivated purges.

“What makes the shake-up even more troubling, they say, is its timing: cocoa farmers across the country continue to struggle with delayed payments, smuggling threats, and dwindling support services.

“Rather than reassuring cocoa farmers and stakeholders with solutions to these pressing problems, COCOBOD’s response is seen as an exercise in window-dressing.

“Cocoa farmers are not interested in PR spins; they want leadership that protects their livelihoods. COCOBOD cannot wish away the erosion of experienced management with political explanations,” Fiifi Boafo said.

The growing backlash has raised uncomfortable questions about whether the current leadership is prioritising political expediency over stability in Ghana’s most critical export sector.

COCOBOD’s latest statement, instead of restoring confidence, has only deepened mistrust, shifting attention from promises of competence to a reality of uncertainty.
