In order to avoid a statewide strike, the Civil and Local Government Staff Association, Ghana (CLOGSAG) has given the government a two-week ultimatum, requiring the immediate implementation of a new salary structure and other terms of employment for its members.

Following an emergency meeting of the National Executive Council (NEC) on Thursday, June 12, 2025, the Association issued a statement expressing increasing frustration with what it called protracted delays and government inaction, despite numerous letters and signed Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs).

According to the statement, CLOGSAG is still under increasing pressure from its members because the agreed-upon benefits have not yet been implemented.

The Association referenced two important letters that were addressed to government authorities on the subject, dated December 20, 2024, and May 6, 2025.

In accordance with the emergency meeting’s resolution, CLOGSAG is requesting that the Minister of Labor, Jobs, and Employment make sure the special pay structure and other agreed-upon terms of service are implemented as soon as possible.

The government has until June 30, 2025, to deliver a favorable response, according to the union.

“Failure to initiate implementation,” the statement warned, “the Association would have no other option than to embark on a nationwide strike.”

The leadership of CLOGSAG declares that it is still dedicated to obtaining just remuneration for employees of the civil and municipal governments and that it will not think twice about initiating industrial action if its demands are not satisfied within the allotted period.
