A 45-year-old businesswoman, Millicent Asamoah Ampofo, has been hauled before an Accra Circuit Court after police uncovered an alleged operation producing drinks and confectionery suspected to contain cannabis at her drinking spot in Taifa, Accra.

The operation followed weeks of intelligence gathering by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), culminating in a raid on November 5, 2025.

Officers seized a range of packaged beverages and sweets believed to have been infused with narcotics, pointing to what investigators described as a ‘well-organised, small-scale production line’.

A report by myjoyonline on November 16, 2025, indicated that Millicent made her first court appearance last Tuesday before presiding judge Kwabena Kodua Obiri-Yeboah.

Her plea was not taken because the physical exhibits have been forwarded to the Police Forensic Science Laboratory for confirmation of their chemical composition.

Prosecutors told the court that the accused allegedly confessed during interrogation, admitting ownership of all seized items and acknowledging that she produced and sold the substances.

She reportedly identified her only supplier as a man known as Richard, said to be operating somewhere in Accra.

Police have stated that efforts are currently underway to track him down and dismantle the alleged supply chain.

Although state attorneys did not oppose bail, the court opted for strict terms due to the seriousness of the suspected offence.

Millicent has since been granted bail set at GH¢50,000 with one surety, pending the forensic report that could potentially upgrade the provisional charge to a substantive one.

The court further ordered the prosecution to file disclosures to the defence before the next hearing, ensuring the accused has full access to the evidence being relied on.

Investigators have stated that the case forms part of a broader effort to clamp down on the processing and circulation of narcotics disguised as everyday consumer goods.
