The Ambassador of China to Ghana, Tong Defa, has paid a courtesy visit on the Minister of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Abla Dzifa Gomashie.

The meeting, held on Tuesday, April 29, 2025, focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation between Ghana and China in the areas of tourism promotion, cultural exchange and support for Ghana’s creative arts sector.

According to details from the ministry, made available to GhanaWeb, Tong Defa expressed China’s continued interest in deepening cultural diplomacy and highlighted several opportunities for joint initiatives, including Ghana’s participation in fairs and exhibition, investment in tourism infrastructure and cultural exchange programmes.

Both parties, according to the details, “acknowledged the strong historical and cultural ties between the two nations and emphasised the importance of mutual respect and collaboration in promoting heritage and innovation.”

The sector minister, Dzifa Gomashie, underscored the government’s commitment to making Ghana a hub for cultural tourism in West Africa and welcomed technical and financial support from China to achieve this vision.

She also invited the Chinese Embassy to participate in upcoming cultural events and explore co-organised projects in film, music and heritage preservation.

The minister also took the opportunity of the bilateral meeting to discuss the rehabilitation of the National Theatre of Ghana of Ghana with the Chinese Ambassador.

Also present at the meeting were Yusif Jajah, the Deputy Minister of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts; Geoffrey Tamakloe, Director of Tourism; and Divine K. Owusu-Ansah, Director for Culture and Creative Arts.
