AKONOMA, Central Region – The Akonoma D/A Basic School Kindergarten in the Abura Asebu Kwamankese District has been officially refurbished and handed over, thanks to a philanthropic initiative by the City Life Houston Church from the United States.

The project was spearheaded by Akonoma Mpuntuhen, Nana Dakrabo I (also known as Michael B. Pratt) and forms part of the activities commemorating the Silver Jubilee of the Paramount Chief of the Asebu Traditional Area, Okatakyi Amenfi VII.

At a ceremony to hand over the facility, held at on Friday, September 12, 2025, Nana Dakrabo I, Mputuhen of Akonoma emphasized the critical role of education in achieving success in the modern world. He pledged the church’s ongoing commitment to renovating and constructing educational facilities, particularly in deprived communities within the traditional area.

“We are dedicated to supporting quality education,” he stated, adding that the church would also provide stationery and other essential learning materials to schools in the various communities to improve educational outcomes.

Chief Nana Dakrabo I, was joined by prominent church leaders, including Lead Pastor Chris Pate and Executive Pastor Ji Yun, who came to support his philanthropic endeavours.

The Paramount Chief, Okatakyi Amenfi VII, who initiated the appeal for support, reiterated that infrastructure directly impacts the quality of education. He said the refurbishment has created a conducive environment for teaching and learning.

“The state of the school before and its transformation now is a significant improvement, and I am deeply grateful for this support,” he stated. Okatakyi Amenfi VII expressed his confidence that the school’s academic performance would see a marked improvement as a result.

    A Call for Facility Maintenance

Using the opportunity, the Paramount Chief charged the school management and the entire community to ensure the newly refurbished facility is properly maintained to serve its intended purpose for years to come.

Nana Dakrabo I echoed this sentiment and assured continued support for the community with educational infrastructure, books, supplies, and more.

Furthermore, the Headteacher of the school, David Amanor Tetteh pledged that the School Management Committee would work diligently to maintain the new facilities to a high standard.
