The National Chief Imam, Sheikh Osman Nuhu Sharubutu, has expressed profound gratitude to former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia for his pivotal role in the completion of the Answarudeen Islamic School at New Fadama, Accra.

Established by Sheikh Sharubutu nearly four decades ago, the school had fallen into a state of disrepair until then Vice President Bawumia, through the Zongo Development Fund (ZoDF), initiated a comprehensive reconstruction of the facility.

Although significant progress was made under his tenure, some essential works and fittings remained outstanding at the time he left office, leaving the project stalled under the new administration.

Demonstrating his personal commitment, Dr Bawumia intervened by directly providing GH¢160,000 to the Office of the National Chief Imam to secure the necessary equipment and finalize the project.

During a recent courtesy call by the former Vice President, Sheikh Sharubutu lauded his intervention, describing it as a noble gesture that will greatly benefit generations of children.

“This is a remarkable deed, particularly because it benefits these children. I am very grateful to you for all that you have done and the support you continue to offer,” the Chief Imam remarked.

He further offered special prayers for Dr Bawumia, invoking Allah’s blessings and abundant rewards upon him.

Dr Bawumia was accompanied by former Finance Minister Dr. Amin Adam, former Deputy Minister For Transport Hassan Tampuli, and Seidu Nasigri, former Board Chairman of the Zongo Development Fund and current Legal Advisor to the Office of the Chief Imam.

Lawyer Nasigri disclosed that Dr. Bawumia had not only funded the completion works but also directed that once the ZoDF reimburses the contractor, the contractor should, in turn, refund the money to the Office of the Chief Imam.

At the request of the Chief Imam, Dr Bawumia personally toured the newly completed facility. During the visit, he observed classes in session, where pupils—delighted by his presence—recited the opening chapter of the Holy Qur’an, Surah al-Fatiha, as a prayer for him.
