The 97-kilometer Tema to Mpakadan railway line is scheduled to commence full operations from October 1, 2025.

This comes on the back of successful test runs and technical assessments conducted on the railway line.

The Minister of Transport, Joseph Bukari Nikpe, stated during the Government’s Accountability Series on September 17, 2025, that all necessary checks have been completed to pave way for full operations.

“We have done test run on the Tema to Mpakadan rail line and it ended yesterday (September 16, 2025). So, by 1st October, God willing, we will start the first operations from Tema to Mpakadan.

“We have finished with the test runs and everything is set for us to start operations from Tema to Mpakadan, so, October 1, may be our first trip. We will invite all of you to witness how that will take place,” he stated.

The Tema-Mpakadan railway line, a transformative infrastructure project aimed at revolutionalising Ghana’s transportation sector, was commissioned under former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in 2024.
