Charles Taylor says Hearts of Oak players should only earn their salaries after producing results, proposing a strict play-before-salary policy to address what he views as declining standards within the squad.

His call follows the club’s shock elimination from the MTN FA Cup, which he believes highlights deeper issues of commitment.

Taylor expressed disappointment after the Phobians lost 1-0 to Division Two side True Life FC in the Round of 64 at the Kpobiman Training Centre.

The result intensified frustrations among fans who expected a convincing response in the competition.

Speaking on Angel FM, Taylor insisted the current squad is falling short of the club’s historic expectations.

“We were very serious during our time,” he said, drawing a comparison between previous teams and the current group.

“Even at training, my own teammate threatened to foul me badly if I didn’t stop dribbling him,” he said.

“These current Hearts players should be placed on a match-before-salary basis,” he added.

Hearts of Oak now turn their attention to Sunday’s Ghana Premier League trip to the Aliu Mahama Stadium, where they face Karela United in Matchday 13.
