James Brayshaw’s commentary during the Boxing Day Test veered into very personal territory when the Channel Seven star talked about still being in pain after his 2014 divorce from first wife Sarah.

The 57-year-old former cricket star was discussing Oscar Piastri‘s appearance at the MCG on Saturday when he was asked about living in the same prestigious Melbourne suburb as the Aussie F1 talent.

‘His family are Brighton, here, Bayside in Melbourne,’ Brayshaw said on Triple M radio’s coverage of the match.

‘You used to live there, didn’t you?’ asked his co-commentator, former Aussie cricket star Greg Blewett.

‘Yep, and then, um… then, ah… then got divorced,’ Brayshaw explained, drawing a laugh from Blewett.

He then described Aussie skipper Pat Cummins striking Indian batter Nitish Kumar Reddy with a delivery.

‘That’s hit him hard, Nitish Reddy, on the arm. He is in pain,’ Brayshaw continued.

‘Not as much pain as I am, but he’s in pain!’

That last remark had Blewett and fellow Triple M star Isabelle Westbury in fits of laughter.

Brayshaw split from Sarah in 2014 after they had four children together.

‘It is with sadness that after 23 years of marriage Sarah and James Brayshaw have confirmed they are going their separate ways,’ the couple said in a joint statement.

‘They remain good friends and are committed and loving parents to their four sons who will always be their priority.’

Two years later, Brayshaw opened up about some of the issues that may have played a role in the bust-up.

‘I’ve got to get better at being a dad, and a partner, being around a bit more, not being stressed and knackered when I am,’ he told The Age after moving away from his jobs at Channel Nine and as chairman of the North Melbourne AFL club.

‘That’s the part of my life I’ve got horribly wrong for too long. That’s priority No.1.’

The West Australian moved on with Lisa Christie in 2017 and the couple tied the knot in a beautiful ceremony in Perth last November, a year after he popped the question while they were on holiday in Italy.

Blewett presented the bride and groom with their rings, and former AFL CEO Gillon McLachlan was the MC for the event.

Other famous faces in attendance included footy stars past and present, Brad Scott, Alastair Clarkson, Sam Newman, Brian Tayor, Luke Darcy, Nathan Brown, Campbell Brown, Don Pyke, Garry Lyon and Billy Brownless.

A number of high-profile cricket figures were also on hand, such as Adam Gilchrist, arren Lehmann, Justin Langer, Mark Taylor, Tom Moody, Dennis Lillee and Brendon Julian.

Brayshaw’s nephew Angus Brayshaw, who was playing for the Melbourne Demons at the time, was at the wedding with his fiancee Danielle Frawley.

Media titan Craig Hutchinson admitted the huge number of famous faces on the guest list was ‘bizarre’.

‘It was a wonderful night, well done to James and Lisa,’ Hutchison said on his Sounding Board podcast.

‘A decent cricket 11 picked out of the wedding it would be fair to say, it was quite a bizarre night in terms of the size of identities there.’
