The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Bosiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi has declared his intent to contest the national chairmanship position of the party.
According to a 3news report, Wontumi spoke in an exclusive interview with William Evans-Nkum, asserting that he aims to rescue the party and lead it to victory in the 2028 elections.
“I am not backing down as is being speculated. I still remain resolute in becoming the next National Chairman.
“There was a general apathy, and you cannot blame Wontumi for that. Even in our worst performance, tell me one region that beat the Ashanti Region,” 3news.com quoted him to have said.
He further stated, “Everybody knows how I campaigned in the lead-up to the last election. I never slept, visiting people’s homes at odd hours. Look, I spent a lot to ensure our party wins power, but unfortunately, it didn’t happen.”
Chairman Wontumi believes he is the right man to bring the opposition party back to power in 2028.
“I did it for the party in 2016, and I am poised to do it again in 2028.”
The NPP lost the 2024 general elections to the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
The Electoral Commission Chairperson, Jean Mensa, on Monday, December 9, declared John Mahama the winner, with a total of 6,328,397 votes.
Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia of the NPP received 4,657,304 votes.
Mahama’s party, the NDC, achieved historic success by gaining a majority in Parliament.
